GEARY, Okla. – As July turns to August, Bobby Griswold has enjoyed a pretty good 2008 riding bucking horses for a living.
Parlaying a fantastic Fourth of July run over Cowboy Christmas, the Geary, Okla., cowboy moved up 20 spots on the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association’s saddle bronc-riding money list to No. 8 in the world standings with $50,935.
But none of the highs in rodeo arenas across this great land this season add up to the haul Griswold reeled in Tuesday, July 29, 2008, when his wife, Lynn, gave birth to their third daughter, Shay.
Shay Lynn Griswold entered this world around noon central time in Edmond, Okla., and weighed 8 pounds, 7 ounces. She's 19 inches long. She will be welcomed home by her older sisters, Sarah and Sage.
“I’m pretty excited. I can’t wait to see her,” Bobby said Tuesday afternoon as he was driving near Perry, Okla., on Interstate 35, about an hour from the Edmond hospital. “Hopefully we’ll get her home tomorrow and can enjoy her there.”
Bobby Griswold, ranked second in the Prairie Circuit bronc-riding standings, competed Monday night at the Jayhawker Roundup in Hill City, Kan., and was planning to compete Tuesday at the Thomas County Rodeo in Colby, Kan. But when word came that Lynn Griswold was in labor, Bobby turned the family van around and headed back to Oklahoma.
He said he also plans to skip rodeos Phillipsburg, Kan.; Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Eagle, Colo. He will return to competition Saturday, Aug. 2, during the final preliminary performance of the Dodge City (Kan.) Round-Up rodeo, with hopes of competing in Sunday’s championship round.-30-
